The reborn XFL finally took the field this weekend, a debut that was deemed by most onlookers as delivering on the league’s goal: fun, watchable football.

The XFL averaged 17,454 fans per game across its four openers.
The Houston Roughnecks had an announced attendance of 17,815 fans at TDECU Stadium to lead the league.
The other three games:
The kickoff game between the Dragons and Defenders averaged 3.3 million viewers on ABC. Viewership peaked at 4 million between 4:45-5 p.m. ET. Viewership for the other three XFL games has not yet been released.
In comparison, the AAF’s first game broadcast last year on CBS averaged 2.9 million viewers. However, the AAF game aired at 8:30 p.m. ET on a Saturday, while the first XFL game started at 2 p.m. ET. For the XFL’s second week, two games will air on ABC, one game will air on FOX, and one game will air on FS1.
