The Texas Rangers scored five runs and the Boston Red Sox scored three runs.
The Rangers unexpectedly had the opportunity to take a four-game series against the Red Sox this weekend with a win today. This didn’t appear in the cards before the series began as, after all, the Red Sox came into today’s contest as the only team in the American League with at least 17 wins and Texas is in the cellar in the American League West.
Nevertheless, the Rangers won two of the first three games to set up a finale to decide whether or not they’d secure a winning homestand.
Mike Foltynewicz did his part. The Rangers starter went six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts. By the time he exited, however, the Rangers trailed 2-1 with Boston moving their lead to 3-1 by the top of the seventh.
